Hyderabad: Task force sleuths seized 825 kg of adulterated paneer during searches conducted at 45 outlets across various parts of the city on Wednesday.
All the outlets were sourcing paneer from different manufacturers, who were selling it without proper labelling. “It has come to the notice of the authorities that cheese analogue products, made from vegetable fats and non-milk ingredients, are being sold as paneer, malai paneer or milk paneer without proper declaration, amounting to misbranding and consumer deception,” deputy commissioner of police (task force) Vaibhav Gaikwad Raghunath said.
The manufacturers are located in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
“Paneer is often marketed under misleading labels like low-fat paneer, medium-fat paneer or fresh paneer, or sold without manufacturing details, batch number or expiry date. Several shop owners who are placing order for paneer are actually being supplied cheese analogue as a substitute,” he added.
