A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district where a nine-year-old boy was shot dead after he refused to fetch water for mixing with alcohol during a naming ceremony, police confirmed on Saturday.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on Friday in Yakutganj village under the Sahawar police station area. The victim, identified as Yashpal alias Yash, was attending a naming ceremony at his home when the alleged altercation took place, according to news agency PTI.
What Happened
According to the boy's uncle, Anuj, relatives and villagers had gathered for the function. Dhanesh Yadav, son of Sukhveer Yadav and a relative of the victim's father Jasveer Gola, allegedly asked the child to bring water while he was consuming alcohol. When the boy refused, the accused, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, lost his temper and shot him in the stomach, police said.
Chaos erupted at the ceremony following the firing. The injured child was rushed to the district hospital in Kasganj and later referred to Aligarh due to his critical condition. Officials stated that he died during treatment on Saturday.
Legal Action
Station House Officer (SHO) Govind Ballabh Sharma said a case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's family. The accused fled the scene after the incident but was later arrested near the Khitauli canal bridge. Police also recovered the firearm allegedly used in the crime from his possession.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Bharti said the process of sending the accused to jail is underway, and the case is being investigated from all angles. The community remains in shock over the senseless killing of a young child over such a trivial matter.
