An incident of alleged sacrilege occurred at Gurdwara Godavari Sar in Dhillwan Kalan village, Faridkot district, on June 26, 2026, when a board displaying the edict (hukamnama) issued by Sri Akal Takht against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was torn and thrown to the ground. The entire act was captured by CCTV cameras installed at the shrine, according to gurdwara officials.
Details of the Incident
The board, bearing the signatures of the five Singh Sahibans, had been placed at the main gate of the gurdwara as part of a directive issued by the Akal Takht. The hukamnama declared Bhagwant Mann as "panth dokhee" (traitor to the faith) and anti-Sikh, citing an allegedly viral video, and called upon the Sikh sangat to sever ties with him. On the day of the incident, accused individuals entered the gurdwara premises, tore the poster, and threw it on the ground, an act described as desecration by the gurdwara management.
Gurdwara Management's Response
The gurdwara manager confirmed that the poster was displayed in a large board format on the wall of the main gate and was torn by persons affiliated with the Aam Aadmi Party from the village. The matter was reported to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) office and to Faridkot police via the emergency helpline 112. The board has since been reinstalled. The manager demanded strict action against the culprits.
Political Reactions
Shiromani Akali Dal's halqa in-charge Suba Singh Badal and Zila Parishad member Lali Badal condemned the incident, accusing AAP leaders of committing sacrilege against the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. They stated that if Bhagwant Mann believes he has done no wrong, he should appear before Akal Takht and offer his clarification rather than defying its authority. Lali Badal announced that they would file a formal complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police, Faridkot, and ensure strict action against those responsible.
