Nashik: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday detained three personnel attached to a police station in Ahilyanagar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 for registering an accident complaint.
Incident Details
According to ACB officers, a road accident had recently taken place in Ahilyanagar, after which the victim was hospitalised in Pune’s Daund. The victim’s statement was initially recorded by the Daund police, who later transferred the case to a police station in Ahilyanagar for further action.
“A policeman was assigned the task of formally registering the offence. When the victim’s brother approached him, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to register the complaint. The amount was later negotiated down to Rs 7,000. The policeman then directed the complainant to his assistant to enter the accident details into the system,” an ACB officer said.
How the Trap Was Laid
The officers said when the complainant met the assistant, he was redirected to another policeman, who allegedly demanded the agreed bribe amount of Rs 7,000. Unwilling to pay the bribe amount, the complainant approached the ACB unit in Ahilyanagar and filed a formal complaint. Based on the complaint, the ACB team laid a trap on Thursday and eventually detained all the three personnel.
