New Delhi: Seventeen years after a minor was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a tailor employed at her mother’s boutique, police have arrested the accused from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. The suspect, Irshad Ahmed, 42, had evaded arrest since 2009. He fled the country in 2011 and moved to Kuwait, where he remarried. Police apprehended him on June 16 after receiving a tip-off that he had returned for a family function.
Case Details
In April 2009, the victim’s mother approached Bindapur police, alleging that Ahmed had abducted her daughter with the intent to marry and raped her before absconding. The case remained unsolved for years until the recent breakthrough.
Second Incident
In a separate case, police arrested a 26-year-old man from Uttarakhand for allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint in 2023. The accused filmed the assault and used the footage to blackmail the victim.
