Police in Ahmedabad have registered a case against a resident of a Ranip housing society after closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage conclusively showed his vehicle running over and killing a sleeping puppy on the society premises. The chain of events began when an 11-year-old girl, the daughter of complainant Kuldeep Sharma (38), noticed that one of three puppies born to a stray dog within the society was missing and later found dead. Alerted by his daughter, Sharma and his wife searched for the puppy but initially failed to locate it. This prompted Sharma to review the housing society's security camera recordings to understand what had transpired.
The Damning CCTV Evidence
The recorded footage presented a clear and distressing sequence of events. It showed a car parked in the society's compound. The driver, later identified by Sharma as a fellow resident, is seen opening the car door and starting the vehicle without checking his immediate surroundings. Tragically, a brown-coated puppy was sleeping near the car. As the vehicle moved forward, it crushed the helpless animal, leading to its instantaneous death.
