Akal Takht Jathedar seeks action against Uttarakhand leader

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj has called on the Uttarakhand government to take strict action against Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leader Ashish Negi over alleged anti-Sikh remarks made in a viral video. The Jathedar warned that such expressions could have serious consequences and urged the state to ensure the safety of Sikhs visiting Uttarakhand.

Jathedar's Statement on Viral Video

Referring to the video, Gargaj stated that individuals like Negi pose a serious threat to the country's peace, harmony, and communal brotherhood. He emphasized that Negi should not forget the sacrifices and martyrdoms of the Sikh community, which played a major role in securing the country's freedom. The Jathedar alleged that Negi's statement clearly showed deep-rooted anti-Sikh hatred in the minds of certain disruptive elements.

Directive to Sikh Community and SGPC

Gargaj directed Sikhs to remain cautious of such individuals and advised them not to be provoked during their journeys. He also expressed concern over repeated attempts by some individuals in Uttarakhand to question Sikhs' right to wear the Kakaars, the five religious articles of faith. He stated that ensuring the safety of Sikhs and Punjabis traveling to Uttarakhand is the state government's responsibility.

The Akal Takht Jathedar further directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to initiate legal proceedings in Amritsar against Negi over his threats and anti-Sikh remarks. He alleged that some local individuals had first targeted Sikhs on pilgrimage over their religious symbols and attire, later making it communal and creating tensions between communities.

Warning of Consequences

Gargaj warned that if such behavior continued unchecked, Sikhs might be compelled to reconsider travel to Uttarakhand. He urged the government to identify those responsible and take strict action to prevent further incidents.
