Arrest for morphing photos into obscene content in Varanasi case

In a significant crackdown on cyber harassment, a joint police team from Azamgarh and the cyber crime cell arrested a man from Lucknow on Saturday. The accused is alleged to have digitally altered a woman's photographs into obscene images and circulated them on social media platforms.

Complaint Leads to Swift Police Action

The case originated from a formal complaint filed by a woman at the Raunapar police station in Azamgarh. Azamgarh's ASP (Rural), Chirag Jain, stated that an investigation was immediately launched based on her allegations. The probe revealed a systematic campaign where the accused misused cyber tools to severely damage the complainant's social reputation.

Arrest and Recovery of Evidence

Following the investigation, teams from the Raunapar police station and the cyber crime cell traced and apprehended the accused from the Sarojini Nagar area in Lucknow. During the arrest, law enforcement officials seized critical evidence, including the smartphone used to commit the crime, a fake Aadhaar card, and digital data linked to various social media accounts.

Accused's Modus Operandi and Confession

The arrested individual was identified as Shadab, also known as Shahid Khan. Police discovered he had operated using a counterfeit Aadhaar card bearing the name Abhishek and listing Rajesh Rawat as his father. Upon interrogation, Shadab confessed to obtaining the victim's original pictures, digitally editing them to create obscene content, and then disseminating the material through fake social media profiles. He also admitted to threatening and intimidating the woman and her family members, causing them significant mental harassment.

This arrest highlights the increasing vigilance of Uttar Pradesh police against cyber crimes, especially those targeting women's safety and dignity online. The use of fake identity documents like Aadhaar cards in such offenses presents a serious challenge that authorities are now actively combating.
