Bageshwar Mother Faces Charges After 22-Day-Old Daughter's Death

Police in Bageshwar district have registered a case against a 25-year-old woman in connection with the tragic death of her 22-day-old daughter. The action follows serious allegations from family members and a detailed postmortem report that revealed disturbing findings.

Incident Details and Family Complaint

The heartbreaking incident occurred on February 9 in Jaisar village under the Baijnath police station jurisdiction. According to police statements, the newborn was discovered unconscious at the family home while other relatives were attending a wedding ceremony.

The infant's grandfather, Keshar Singh Koranga, filed an official complaint against the mother, Deepa Koranga. He stated that she was the only family member present with the baby at the time of the incident. When other relatives returned home around 6:30 PM, they found the infant unresponsive and immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital.

Medical professionals at the hospital declared the baby dead upon arrival. Family members grew suspicious after noticing unusual marks on the child's neck and demanded a thorough postmortem examination to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

Postmortem Findings Reveal Traumatic Asphyxia

The postmortem report provided crucial evidence that prompted police action. Medical experts determined the cause of death to be traumatic asphyxia – a form of suffocation resulting from pressure applied to the neck area.

Doctors specifically noted that the injuries were ante-mortem in nature, meaning they occurred before death rather than post-mortem. The examination revealed additional concerning findings including:

  • An abrasion near the right side of the chin
  • An injury located below the neck area

These medical observations suggested possible foul play rather than natural causes or accidental death.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Based on the family's complaint and the compelling medical evidence, authorities registered a formal case against the mother under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation was officially initiated on Tuesday with multiple aspects being examined.

Keshar Singh Koranga revealed additional context during his complaint, mentioning that the family had been experiencing domestic disputes for some time. He disclosed that a previous complaint had been filed and police counseling sessions were ongoing, with one such session actually taking place on the same day as the tragic incident.

Bageshwar Circle Officer Ajay Lal Shah provided insight into the investigative approach, stating: "We are relying on forensic evidence and the postmortem report. All aspects are being examined carefully." He emphasized that legal action would proceed based on the investigation findings.

The case continues to develop as authorities gather additional evidence and statements from all involved parties. The tragic death of the 22-day-old infant has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the importance of thorough investigation in such sensitive matters.
