Elderly Woman Attacked in Koramangala Home
An elderly woman faced a terrifying robbery at knifeforce inside her Bengaluru residence. The incident occurred on 1st Main, Rajendranagar in Koramangala during the early hours of Sunday. This violent act spread fear throughout the local neighborhood.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
The attacker fled with gold and silver jewelry along with cash. However, police officers quickly tracked him down and made an arrest. They recovered all stolen items from his possession.
The victim, Gowramma, suffered injuries during the assault. She operates a small petty shop near her home. Gowramma lives on the ground floor of her building with her granddaughter. Her son and daughter-in-law reside in a neighboring house.
Detailed Account of the Morning Attack
The accused, 22-year-old Vijay, comes from the same locality. Police arrested him within hours of the crime. Gowramma was alone at home between 6am and 6.45am when Vijay entered her house.
He demanded that she hand over her valuables including gold ornaments and cash. According to her daughter-in-law Rathna's complaint, Gowramma stated she had no jewelry. Vijay then allegedly assaulted her and pushed her to the floor.
The attacker sat on her and hit her mouth when she tried to raise an alarm. Vijay threatened to slit her throat with a knife. He forced her to reveal where she kept her valuables.
Terrified, Gowramma told him the ornaments were in the almirah. Vijay took the key and stole two gold chains, a pair of earrings, three pairs of silver anklets, and Rs 20,000. He allegedly continued demanding more valuables and tortured her for nearly 45 minutes.
Granddaughter's Return Interrupts the Crime
At this point, Gowramma's granddaughter returned home. The PUC student had stepped out briefly to buy shampoo and other items from a nearby shop. She knocked on the door upon her return.
The accused opened the door and fled immediately. The student tried to grab his jacket and chased him. Based on Gowramma's description and CCTV footage from the area, police traced and arrested Vijay.
Legal Proceedings and Criminal History
Authorities produced Vijay before a court on Monday. The court remanded him to judicial custody. Adugodi police registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 311 for robbery with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt.
Vijay is a habitual offender who was released from prison just one week earlier. He knew Gowramma was often alone at home since her granddaughter usually stayed with her parents. He planned the robbery accordingly.
Separate Case: Grandson Steals from Grandmother
In another disturbing incident, a 21-year-old man was arrested for stealing from his own grandmother. Nandini Layout police took Yashwanth M into custody for allegedly stealing gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 14.5 lakh.
The accused exploited his grandmother's brief absence while she stepped out for a routine puja errand. Yashwanth visited Jayamma's house in Kanteeravanagar on January 1. Unaware of his intentions, Jayamma welcomed her grandson warmly and prepared dosa for him.
Around noon, she went to a nearby shop to buy flowers for puja, leaving him alone at home. When she returned about thirty minutes later, Yashwanth had disappeared. Repeated calls to his phone went unanswered, raising her suspicion.
Jayamma discovered the theft on January 4 when she opened her almirah. Gold ornaments weighing 108 grams were missing including necklaces, bangles, rings and earrings. Nearly one kilogram of silver articles had also been stolen.
Unable to contact her grandson whose phone was switched off, Jayamma approached police. Investigators found that Yashwanth used the brief window during her absence to open the almirah, steal the valuables and leave before she returned.
During interrogation, Yashwanth confessed to the theft. He claimed financial distress motivated his actions since his wife was pregnant and he needed money for household expenses. He reportedly kept some ornaments and sold others at a jewelry shop.
