Bengaluru Man Files Assault Complaint After Theft Attempt, Gets Arrested for Crime and Attack

In a bizarre turn of events in Bengaluru, a man who filed a police complaint alleging assault during an attempted theft has been arrested for the theft bid itself and for an attack on residents by his associates. The incident, which unfolded in the Chokkanahalli area, highlights a case where the complainant became the accused.

Details of the Theft Attempt and Altercation

According to the Sampigehalli police, Azghar Khan, a 24-year-old autorickshaw driver from RT Nagar, went to a house on Chokkanahalli Main Road on the evening of January 31, 2026. As per the First Information Report (FIR) lodged on February 1, Khan scaled the compound wall of the property, allegedly intending to steal scrap metal and electrical items stored outside.

The police reported that Khan was intoxicated at the time and injured his head while jumping over the wall. When confronted by a male and female resident of the house, a violent altercation erupted. In response, Khan called two associates, identified as Razak and Shyam, for backup.

Assault on Residents and Subsequent Arrest

During the confrontation, Razak allegedly struck the male resident on the head with a beer bottle, while broken glass shards injured the woman's cheek. Neighbors, alerted by the woman's screams, rushed to the scene, prompting Razak and Shyam to flee in their autorickshaw, leaving Khan behind.

Khan later claimed that an unidentified person hit him on the head with a wooden object during the chaos, causing a bleeding injury. He sought medical treatment and filed a complaint against this unknown assailant for intentionally causing hurt.

However, police investigations revealed a different story. An officer stated, "When we investigated, we learnt that he had tried to steal items by jumping over the compound wall. He was intoxicated and hurt himself while climbing. We also discovered how his associates had assaulted the residents with a beer bottle, and based on this, we arrested him."

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Khan was subsequently arrested for the theft attempt and the attack on the residents. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. The police have confirmed that further investigation into the case is underway to gather more details and potentially apprehend the fleeing associates.

This incident underscores the complexities of urban crime in Bengaluru, where initial complaints can unravel to reveal deeper criminal activities. The case serves as a reminder of the vigilance required by law enforcement in such scenarios.
