In a shocking case of premeditated violence, Bengaluru police have revealed that the brutal killing of a 39-year-old bank manager by her estranged husband was planned several months in advance. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the city, underscores the grim reality of domestic disputes turning fatal.
Chilling Premeditation and the Cold-Blooded Attack
The accused, identified as 40-year-old software engineer Balamurugan, allegedly decided to murder his wife, Bhuvaneshwari, nearly four months before the tragic event. According to police findings, he procured an illegal pistol and ammunition through underground channels. Demonstrating a determined intent to ensure the crime was completed, he also carried a knife as a backup weapon, telling investigators he did not want to "miss the opportunity" if the firearm failed.
The execution of the plan occurred on Tuesday evening in the busy Rajajinagar Industrial Area in west Bengaluru. Around 6:30 pm near 1st Main Road, Balamurugan confronted Bhuvaneshwari and shot her at point-blank range. Investigators confirmed he fired five rounds, with four spent cartridges recovered from the scene. A post-mortem examination later confirmed multiple bullet injuries as the cause of death.
A Calm Surrender and Troubled Marital History
In a cold-blooded sequence of events, the accused later walked into a police station, surrendered, and handed over the firearm and the knife. He reportedly told the police that his wife "deserved it." Officers described his demeanor during questioning as calm and unemotional, showing no remorse for his actions. He was taken back to the crime scene for a spot inspection, where he allegedly narrated the events in detail, stating he was certain she was dead before leaving.
Police sources indicate the couple, married in 2011, had a long history of marital discord. Disputes began a few years into the marriage, with Balamurugan allegedly suspecting his wife's fidelity and frequently accusing her of speaking to other men. Family members revealed that arguments intensified after the birth of their children and that all attempts at reconciliation failed. Relatives have accused Balamurugan of subjecting Bhuvaneshwari to prolonged abuse and even assaulting their children.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Following the incident, a court on Wednesday remanded Balamurugan to 14 days of police custody. A critical focus of the ongoing probe is tracing the source of the illegal firearm. Police are investigating whether the pistol was sourced from outside Karnataka and if others were involved in supplying the weapon to the accused.
Bhuvaneshwari is survived by her parents, two brothers, and her two young children—an eight-year-old son studying in Class 8 and a daughter in UKG. The son bravely told local media that his father often fought with his mother and beat both him and his sister, painting a harrowing picture of the family's life before the tragedy.
This case highlights the severe consequences of unresolved domestic conflict and the terrifying potential for premeditated violence within troubled relationships. The Bengaluru police continue their investigation to uncover the full network behind the illegal weapon used in this calculated crime.
