A police sub-inspector (SI) in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly assaulting two minor boys. The incident came to light after the victims' families filed a complaint at the local police station. The accused, identified as SI Ramesh, was immediately taken into custody and is currently being interrogated.

Details of the Incident

According to the complaint, the SI called the two boys, aged 12 and 14, to the police station under the pretext of questioning them about a minor theft. Once inside, he allegedly beat them with a stick and slapped them repeatedly. The boys sustained injuries on their backs and arms, as per the medical report.

The parents of the victims approached the senior police officials after their children narrated the ordeal. A case has been registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, though the assault was not of a sexual nature.

Police Response and Action

Senior police officers confirmed the arrest and stated that a departmental inquiry has been initiated. Commissioner of Police, B. Dayananda, said, "We have zero tolerance for such misconduct. The accused has been suspended and will face strict disciplinary action."

The SI has been booked under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation). He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

Public Outcry and Demands

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and human rights activists. They have demanded a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for the officer. Many expressed concern about the misuse of power by law enforcement personnel.

"We want justice for our children. Such incidents erode public trust in the police," said a parent of one of the victims. The state government has assured a fair inquiry.
