A tragic hit-and-run incident in north Bengaluru has resulted in the death of a senior advocate and left three others injured, with an 18-year-old engineering student now facing serious legal charges. The Sanjay Nagar traffic police have registered a case against the first-year BE student for his alleged role in the chain accident that occurred on Wednesday late evening.
Details of the RMV Club Road Accident
The accident took place on RMV Club Road in Dollars Colony, RMV second stage. The accused driver has been identified as Shishir Patil, 18, a resident of Electronics City. He was reportedly driving with his female friend and classmate, Srinidhi, also 18, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian, leading to a chain collision.
The pedestrian who lost his life was 61-year-old N Ramachandra Reddy, a high court advocate. His younger brother, N Narayana Reddy, has filed the formal complaint against Shishir Patil. Two siblings on a scooter, identified as Swathi, 23, and Bharath, 19, were also injured in the incident. They were out shopping at the time.
Legal Charges and Police Investigation
The police have invoked stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused student. A case has been registered under BNS sections 281 (rash driving on a public way), 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 106 (causing death by negligence).
A senior police officer stated that they are awaiting Shishir's discharge from the hospital to begin formal interrogation. Blood samples have been collected and sent for forensic analysis to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
Condition of the Accused and Victims
Shishir Patil sustained severe facial injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital. His friend Srinidhi also suffered injuries to her face. Medical authorities have confirmed that both are now out of immediate danger.
The scooter-borne siblings, Swathi and Bharath, are also receiving medical care at a hospital. The police are proceeding with the legal formalities and will take further necessary action once the primary accused is medically fit to be questioned.
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about rash driving and road safety in the city, particularly involving young drivers. The community awaits the outcome of the police investigation and the forensic report.
