Bengaluru Assault: Woman, Friends Attacked by Neighbours in Kammanahalli
Bengaluru: Woman, 3 men assaulted by neighbours in Kammanahalli

A violent altercation in the early hours of Sunday left four individuals, including a young woman, hospitalised after an alleged assault by their neighbours in the Kammanahalli area of east Bengaluru. The Banasawadi police have registered a case and are investigating the incident that occurred between 3 am and 3:30 am.

What Triggered the Kammanahalli Incident?

The sequence of events began when the 24-year-old woman, who works at a restaurant in Indiranagar, went to visit her friend Kumsuto Zhimoni at his residence in Kammanahalli. According to her police complaint, she had not received any response from Zhimoni to her calls or messages for five days following a prior disagreement, which prompted her to visit him in person.

Upon her arrival, the two reportedly engaged in another argument. The commotion drew the attention of neighbours living on the upper floor of the building, identified as Mohammed Umar and Mohammed Rizwan, among others. They came down and objected to the loud shouting and the woman's presence at that late hour, leading to a heated exchange.

The Alleged Assault and Escalation

The situation turned physically violent when the woman attempted to leave the premises. She alleged that the accused blocked her path and misbehaved with her. When Zhimoni stepped in to intervene, both he and the woman were allegedly subjected to abuse and physical assault.

In an attempt to resolve the matter, Zhimoni contacted the owner of the building. However, when the owner arrived at the scene and began questioning Umar and Rizwan, he too was allegedly assaulted and kicked. Two of Zhimoni's friends, who were also present, sustained injuries in the ensuing violence. All the injured parties were subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police Action and Legal Charges

The Banasawadi police have taken swift action by registering a formal case against the accused neighbours. The charges have been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), reflecting the severity of the alleged crimes.

The specific sections invoked are:

  • BNS Section 74: Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
  • BNS Section 115: Voluntarily causing hurt.
  • BNS Section 126: Wrongful restraint.
  • BNS Section 351: Criminal intimidation.
  • BNS Section 352: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

Police officials confirmed that notices have been served to the accused and that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway.
