A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Bengaluru on Friday evening, leading to the arrest of a woman in her late twenties. The accused, identified as Damini alias Mohini, allegedly assaulted a female home guard who had advised her regarding her clothing after intervening to help her.
The Sequence of Events Near KR Puram
The episode began near the KR Puram railway station. According to police reports, Damini, a private company employee and resident of Narayanapura in Mahadevapura, was walking when a few miscreants passed lewd comments about her attire. Home guard Lakshmi Narasamma, who was on traffic duty nearby and attached to the Banasawadi traffic police station, stepped in. She successfully shooed away the harassers.
Advice Turns Violent
In what was meant as a preventive measure, Narasamma later advised Damini to wear what she considered decent clothes to avoid such unpleasant incidents in the future. She also cautioned her about walking on the road due to heavy traffic. However, this well-intentioned counsel did not sit well with Damini.
Angered by the remarks, Damini suddenly launched a physical attack on the home guard. The assault was severe, leaving Narasamma with bleeding injuries to her face and nose. She was subsequently treated as an outpatient at a private hospital for the wounds sustained.
Arrest and Judicial Custody
Police personnel arrived at the spot shortly after the attack and took Damini into custody. Based on the formal complaint filed by Lakshmi Narasamma, Damini was formally arrested. She was later produced before a court, which ordered her remand to judicial custody at the Bengaluru Central Prison.
During the investigation, police noted that Damini claimed to have attended school in the Maldives and later completed a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) degree from a private college in Bengaluru. The case highlights a disturbing clash following an attempt to address public harassment, resulting in serious legal consequences for the accused.
