A 65-year-old woman in Bengaluru has been arrested on charges of helping her grandson bury the body of a minor girl after he allegedly murdered her. The case came to light last week when the suspect, identified as Ravi alias Harish, reportedly confessed to the crime while intoxicated in front of a few friends.
Details of the Crime
According to police, the murder occurred earlier this month in the outskirts of Bengaluru. The victim, a 14-year-old girl from a neighboring locality, went missing on July 15. Her family filed a missing persons complaint, but no leads emerged until Ravi's confession. Ravi, a 22-year-old daily wage laborer, is said to have known the victim. Police believe he lured her to an isolated spot and strangled her after a dispute. The grandmother, whose name has not been released, allegedly helped him dig a shallow grave and conceal the body under a pile of debris. The body was recovered on July 22 following Ravi's disclosure.
Arrest and Charges
The grandmother was taken into custody on Wednesday. She has been charged with destruction of evidence and abetment to murder. Police officer Prashanth Kumar, who is leading the investigation, stated: "The grandmother admitted to assisting her grandson in burying the body. She claimed she acted out of fear and familial loyalty. We are gathering forensic evidence to corroborate her involvement." Ravi remains in judicial custody and faces murder charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. A court has remanded the grandmother to 14 days of police custody for further questioning.

Investigators are now probing whether Ravi acted alone or had other accomplices. The victim's family has demanded strict punishment for both accused. Autopsy reports confirm death by strangulation, and DNA samples are being matched. Police have also seized Ravi's mobile phone to check for any prior communication with the victim.
