In a tragic incident in Kasganj district, the bodies of two unidentified boys were recovered from the Hazara canal under Dholna police station limits on Friday. Local residents spotted the bodies floating near the Nai Nahar Jhal bridge and promptly alerted the authorities.
Recovery Operation
Station house officer Jagdish Chandra arrived at the scene with a police team. With assistance from residents, the bodies were retrieved from the canal and sent for postmortem examination.
Preliminary information suggests that one of the deceased appeared to be around 16 years old, while the other was about 11. During the initial inspection, a fishing hook was recovered from one of the boys, raising the possibility that they may have gone to the canal for fishing. However, officials stated that all angles are being examined.
Investigation Efforts
Police have contacted nearby villages and police stations for information on any missing children. A mobile phone was recovered from the clothes of one of the deceased and is expected to aid identification efforts.
Kasganj Superintendent of Police OP Singh said that Dholna police and the circle officer (Sadar) reached the spot soon after receiving information. “Efforts are underway to establish their identities. No visible injury marks were found on their bodies,” he said.
Next Steps
Police stated that the exact cause of death will be known after the postmortem report is received. The bodies have been preserved in the mortuary while identification efforts continue.
This case has sent shockwaves through the local community, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
