Pilibhit: A case was registered on Sunday against the driver of a Jaipur-bound bus and three others for allegedly assaulting female passengers and those who came to their aid, according to police. The incident occurred around 8.30 pm on Saturday when the driver, Zaheer Ahmad, halted the bus on National Highway 731.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Virendra Singh informed the Times of India that the bus, which bore Arunachal Pradesh registration and was owned by a Jaipur-based operator, was operating illegally. “It was transporting individual passengers under a tourist permit, which is not permitted. The bus has been seized, and steps are being initiated to suspend its registration as well as the driver’s licence,” he stated.
The complainant, a 40-year-old man from a village under Neuria police station, alleged that his daughter was assaulted by the driver and his associate, Sarwar Ahmad. When he and other passengers attempted to intervene, they were attacked with sticks by two other men, identified as Lala Pahalwan and Talib Pahalwan. As passengers began shouting for help, the accused threatened severe consequences and fled the scene, the complainant added.
Station House Officer Pramendra Kumar said, “The FIR has been lodged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 74 (assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation).”
