Canadian NRI claims Swati Maliwal gave him controversial video

Canadian NRI Jagmandeep Singh, also known as Jagman Samra, has alleged that he received the controversial video that triggered a political storm in Punjab from Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. According to Samra, Maliwal shared the video after being thrashed and humiliated by security staff of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Maliwal, along with six other AAP MPs, had joined the BJP in April.

Details of the Allegation

In a video released on June 26, 2026, Samra claimed that the video was shot in a hotel room booked in the name of Jarnail Singh, the former Rajouri Garden AAP MLA who passed away in 2021. Samra stated he had no knowledge of who recorded the video or on whose phone it was stored, adding, “They can go and even check my house.” Despite repeated attempts, Maliwal was unavailable for comment.

Political Reactions and Counterclaims

Samra’s allegations come after he countered Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s claim that the video featured a ‘prosthetic mask’. In a video shared by senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Facebook, Samra said he had been busy with his family. Another video, shared by Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira, showed Samra stating that more such controversial videos and parodies of the sacred verse ‘ardas’ recited by the CM would be shared soon.

Samra’s Relationship with CM Mann

Samra also claimed that he had known Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann since childhood and had attended his wedding. He alleged that he had even provided Mann with a vehicle for shooting a video. These statements add a personal dimension to the ongoing political controversy.
