Caste-Based Violence Erupts at Yadgir Temple, Leaving Three Injured
Tension gripped Yampada village in Yadgir district after a disturbing incident of alleged caste-based violence at the Hanumana temple on Sunday. According to reports, at least three persons sustained injuries when youths from the Kabbaliga community attacked members of the Scheduled Caste, sparking unrest in the rural community.
Details of the Assault and Injuries
The attack resulted in serious head injuries for Anilkumar Benalli, a resident of Gazarkota village, while two others suffered minor wounds. Videos capturing the alleged assault have rapidly circulated across social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and condemnation.
Incident Unfolds During Temple Programme
The violence erupted during the javala programme of Mahanthesha, son of Posappa Meidigadda and Anantamma Meidigadda from MT Palli village, which was being held at the temple. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the confrontation began when Anilkumar was sitting on a wall in front of the temple. Some individuals objected to his presence, attempting to pull him down and reportedly stating, "You should not sit here."
In response, Anilkumar asserted that there should be no discrimination based on caste. This exchange allegedly escalated quickly, with individuals including Lakshmana Kalappa, Anantappa Hanamanta, and Ramesh Sabanna launching a sudden attack on him. The assault, as seen in viral videos, involved the use of a hammer and a plastic pipe, occurring in full view of the temple premises.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon learning of the incident, Yadgir Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar took immediate cognisance of the matter. He directed law enforcement officials to visit the spot and conduct a thorough investigation. Police personnel from the Gurumatkal police station swiftly rushed to the village to assess the situation and implement measures to control the escalating tension.
The authorities are actively working to restore calm in Yampada village while investigating the motives behind the attack. The circulation of assault videos on social media has added pressure for a prompt and transparent inquiry into this caste-based violence.
