The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Saurabh Sharma, a staffer in the accounts section of the Haryana Pollution Control Board, in connection with the IDFC Bank fraud case. The CBI produced him before a Panchkula court, which remanded him to police custody for four days.
Details of the Arrest
According to sources, Sharma was employed in the accounts section of the Haryana Pollution Control Board. His arrest is part of the ongoing probe into the embezzlement of funds from accounts maintained with IDFC First Bank.
Earlier, the CBI arrested senior IAS officer Pankaj Aggarwal for allegedly embezzling Rs 60.54 crore from the accounts of the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojana Parishad (HSSPP) and the Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board (HSAMB), both maintained with IDFC First Bank.
Role of Pankaj Aggarwal
Aggarwal, who was then Principal Secretary in the Department of School Education and Department of Agriculture in the Haryana Government, was arrested on Monday. The investigation revealed that accounts were opened in the bank's Sector 32 branch in violation of government guidelines, and later funds were transferred to these accounts in excess of permitted limits.
The CBI has been probing the case for several months, and the arrest of Sharma marks a significant development in the investigation. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
