CBI Arrests Meerut Board Member in Rs 3 Lakh Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Satish Kumar Sharma, a nominated member of the Meerut Cantonment Board, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor. The bribe was sought to ensure the smooth continuation of a tender related to parking, canteen, and entry fee collection operations at Gandhi Bagh in Meerut Cantonment.

Case Registered on May 29

According to a CBI spokesperson, the agency registered a corruption case against Sharma on May 29, 2026, following allegations that he had sought illegal gratification from the complainant. The complainant was operating a private firm on behalf of his mother, which had been awarded the contract for managing parking facilities, canteen services, and entry fee collection at Gandhi Bagh.

Details of the Alleged Bribery

The agency alleged that Sharma demanded Rs 3 lakh from the contractor in exchange for ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of the tender and related operations. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on May 29. During the operation, agency officials allegedly caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Following the successful trap operation, the accused was taken into custody. CBI officials confirmed that Sharma has been arrested and is being produced before the competent court in Ghaziabad. The agency has not disclosed whether any additional public servants or private individuals are under the scanner in connection with the case.

Investigation Underway

Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the alleged bribery transaction and any possible wider conspiracy. The CBI stated that the investigation in the matter is continuing.
