Four Arrested in Lohgarh Robbery Case
Amritsar's D-Division police have apprehended four individuals, one of whom is a juvenile, in connection with a robbery that occurred in the Lohgarh area. The suspects allegedly robbed a man of his wallet and cash. Authorities recovered Rs 2,000 from the accused, while efforts continue to locate a fifth accomplice who remains at large.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place on Sunday night and was captured by nearby CCTV cameras. A video of the robbery quickly went viral on social media, prompting swift police action. The complainant, Nikhil Kumar Samanta, originally from West Bengal and currently residing in Lohgarh, reported that he was cleaning his Activa scooter seat after closing his jewellery shop when five youths approached him. One suspect grabbed him by the neck from behind, while others forcibly snatched his wallet from his trouser pocket, pushed him to the ground, and fled.
Police Investigation and Arrests
A case was registered under Sections 310(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the D-Division police station on Monday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Shivam Gupta, alias Kalu, of Lohgarh; Saurav, alias Sahil, of Katra Parja, Hathi Gate; Sanju Kumar of Gali Badrao; and a juvenile. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh stated that the police analyzed the case from all angles, leveraging the CCTV footage and viral video to identify and arrest the four suspects.
Recovery and Ongoing Efforts
Police recovered Rs 2,000 from the accused, believed to be part of the stolen amount. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fifth suspect, who is still at large. The swift action by the D-Division police highlights the effectiveness of CCTV surveillance and community vigilance in solving crimes.
