Chargesheet Filed Against Eight in Broad Daylight Murder

The Chandigarh Police have submitted a chargesheet before a local court against eight individuals, including Amreen Kaur Rai, in connection with the murder of 31-year-old property dealer Charanpreet Singh, also known as Chini, a resident of Kubaheri Khurd village in Mullanpur. The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 103(1), 340(2), 341(2), 61(2) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Details of the Incident

Charanpreet Singh was shot dead outside a gym in Sector 9 on March 18 at around 12:30 pm. According to police, two motorcycle-borne assailants fired approximately a dozen shots at the victim from both sides as he was leaving the gym. The victim sustained multiple bullet injuries to the abdomen, chest, and arm. Bystanders rushed him to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where doctors declared him brought dead due to excessive blood loss. CCTV footage and police investigation revealed that the murder was part of a pre-planned conspiracy.

Gangster Claims Responsibility

Shortly after the incident, gangster Lucky Patial of the Davinder Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the murder through a social media post. The police investigation identified Amreen Kaur Rai as the mastermind behind the contract killing, allegedly orchestrated over a disputed land deal in New Chandigarh in which she suffered financial losses. According to investigators, she hired Lucky Patial through an intermediary to carry out the murder.

List of Accused

The other accused named in the chargesheet include Janu Malik, Rahul Sharma, Kamaljeet Singh, Vikas Chandel, Rajan alias Piyush Pehlwan, Pritam Singh, and Harshpreet. The police have alleged that Amreen was the key conspirator, having orchestrated the killing due to a financial dispute over land.
