In a daring daylight theft, two bike-borne thieves stole a window air-conditioner from the ground floor of a house in Sector 38 (West) on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at 3 pm, according to Sanjeev Raina, the owner of the house.
How the Theft Occurred
The theft was captured by a CCTV camera installed in a neighbour’s house. In the footage, two thieves are seen arriving on a motorcycle, both without helmets or masks. One of the men dismounts, opens the door of the house, and picks up the AC lying inside the house compound. The entire act took place in broad daylight, with no attempt at concealment.
Owner's Account and Police Response
Raina said his family members were inside the house at the time of the theft, but they did not hear any noise. “I immediately called the police. However, no police personnel turned up,” he alleged. “Later, I went to the Maloya station and submitted a written complaint,” Raina claimed on Saturday afternoon.
The incident highlights concerns over security in the area, as the thieves operated openly without fear of being caught. The CCTV footage is expected to aid investigations, though no arrests have been reported so far.
