A domestic dispute over a pair of silver anklets escalated into a brutal stabbing incident in Chandigarh's Dhanas area late on Monday night, leaving a 40-year-old woman fighting for her life. The accused, her estranged husband, has been arrested by the police.
Heated Argument Turns Violent
The victim, identified as Parwati, was allegedly attacked by her husband, Maharaj Din. According to police reports, the couple had been living separately for several years. The trouble began around 9:30 pm on Monday when Din forcibly took Parwati to his home using his cart.
What started as a heated argument soon spiraled out of control. Din was reportedly enraged because Parwati had gifted a pair of silver anklets to their daughter-in-law. In a fit of rage, he allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Parwati in her abdomen.
Family Intervention and Police Action
Quick-thinking family members intervened during the attack, managing to save Parwati from further harm as Din fled the scene. Her son, Rakesh, immediately alerted the police by dialing the emergency number 112.
A PCR van rushed the critically injured woman to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16. Doctors at the hospital have described her condition as critical. Meanwhile, a team from the Sarangpur police station reached the spot, collected the blood-stained knife, and gathered other crucial evidence.
Arrest Made Based on History of Violence
Acting on the statement recorded from Rakesh, the police registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Maharaj Din was successfully arrested on Tuesday. During the investigation, the police confirmed that the accused had a prior history of assaulting his wife, Parwati.
This tragic incident in Dhanas has once again highlighted the severe consequences of domestic disputes turning violent. The Chandigarh Police's prompt response led to the swift arrest of the accused, who now faces serious legal charges.
