The CB-CID on Friday filed a chargesheet against six police personnel in the Akash Delison alleged custodial death case, nearly three months after the 26-year-old scheduled caste man died while under treatment at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
The chargesheet names inspector Dileepan, sub-inspector Gugan, head constables Palani and Deivendran, and grade-I constables Kaleeswaran and Mahendran. All six had earlier been suspended in connection with the case.
Akash, a resident of Krishnarajapuram near Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, was arrested with another man on March 6 in an attempted murder case. He died on March 8 after being admitted to GRH.
Police had claimed he sustained injuries after falling from a bridge while trying to escape. His family alleged custodial torture. Reports said his postmortem recorded more than two dozen injuries.
His body remained in the GRH mortuary for over three months before cremation following a high court order.
