Cheetah from Kuno National Park spotted near Morena village

Bhopal: A cheetah from Kuno National Park was spotted near Jaderu village in the Pahadgarh region of Morena district, prompting forest officials to closely monitor its movement.

According to local residents, the animal was seen in agricultural fields and along forest fringes near the tribal village. Some villagers alleged that the cheetah killed two goats belonging to a resident, although forest officials said the claim is being verified.

A tracking team from Kuno National Park reached the area after receiving reports of the sighting and has been monitoring the animal. Officials stated that such movement is a natural part of a cheetah’s ranging behaviour, and dispersing animals often travel beyond the park’s boundaries before returning to their preferred territory.

The forest department has advised residents not to approach the cheetah, to keep children under supervision, and to secure livestock, especially during dawn and dusk when wild animals are more active.

Officials added that compensation will be provided in accordance with government rules if livestock losses are confirmed during the verification process.

The sighting comes amid a steady increase in Kuno National Park’s cheetah population, with more animals exploring areas outside the protected reserve as they establish new ranges.
