In a significant breakthrough, the Avadi city police have successfully solved a tragic hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a young television professional in Chennai two weeks ago. The police leveraged a combination of technical surveillance and ground-level intelligence to track down and arrest the suspect.
The Fatal Night and the Investigation
The incident occurred on December 16, around 11:30 PM, near Velappanchavadi. The victim, A Nitish Sarwan, 23, who worked as an editor for a television serial, was returning home from work on his motorcycle. A speeding container lorry collided with his bike, crushing it and fatally injuring Sarwan. The driver of the heavy vehicle did not stop to help and fled the scene.
Faced with limited immediate leads, a dedicated police team from Avadi launched an intensive investigation. The core of their probe involved meticulously reviewing more than 50 CCTV footage clips gathered from various locations in and around the accident site. This painstaking digital reconstruction of the vehicle's movement was crucial in identifying the suspect.
Arrest and Custody of the Accused
After two weeks of relentless pursuit, the police zeroed in on the driver. The suspect was identified as C Raja, a 53-year-old man from Mannargudi. Based on the evidence collected from the CCTV analysis and field intelligence, the police apprehended Raja. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Closure and Continued Legal Process
The cracking of this case brings a measure of closure to the victim's family after a traumatic fortnight. It underscores the effectiveness of methodical police work, even when initial evidence seems scarce. The arrest of C Raja marks the end of the manhunt but the beginning of the legal process. He will now face charges in connection with the hit-and-run accident that ended the promising life of Nitish Sarwan. The police have demonstrated how traditional investigative techniques, when combined with modern technological tools, can deliver justice.
