Chhattisgarh Jewellers Implement Strict No-Face-Covering Rule After Major Robbery
Jewellery shops across Chhattisgarh have adopted a significant security measure. The state's Pradesh Sarrafa Association has made a unanimous decision. Customers with covered faces will not be allowed entry into any jewellery shop in Chhattisgarh.
Security Concerns Prompt the Ban
The restriction applies to all forms of face covering. This includes helmets, burqas, veils, masks, or any other item that obscures facial features. Association president Kamal Soni explained the reasoning behind this drastic step.
A recent robbery at a jewellery shop in Navapara–Rajim, Gariaband district, triggered this decision. Thieves looted gold and silver ornaments worth nearly Rs 1 crore. This incident has created widespread fear and insecurity among jewellers throughout the state.
"The primary aim is to ensure clear identification through CCTV cameras," Soni stated. The association wants to curb suspicious activity and prevent organized robberies. Clear facial visibility on security footage is now considered essential.
Clarification and Broader Security Appeal
The association was quick to clarify the intent of this new rule. They emphasized that denying entry to customers with covered faces is purely a security measure. It is not aimed at any specific community or social group.
"This step has been taken solely in the interest of safety and crime prevention," the association said in a statement.
Kamal Soni also made a broader appeal for enhanced security. He urged all traders to immediately strengthen arrangements at their establishments. His recommendations include installing high-resolution CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and secure lockers.
Furthermore, Soni called upon the state government and police. He requested adequate protection for jewellery traders. He also demanded the swift arrest of those involved in the Navapara–Rajim robbery.
Chhattisgarh Joins Other States with Similar Rules
This security-focused policy is not unique to Chhattisgarh. Similar restrictions are already operational in several other Indian states. The list includes Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
By implementing this ban, Chhattisgarh has now joined this group. The collective effort aims to create a stronger deterrent against crimes targeting jewellery businesses. The association hopes this visible security measure will restore confidence among shop owners and customers alike.
