CID Sets Up Extradition Cell to Bring Back Fugitive Criminals from Abroad
CID Extradition Cell to Nab Fugitive Criminals from Abroad

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has established an extradition cell to facilitate the return of individuals accused of organized crime in the state who have sought refuge in foreign countries.

Role of the Extradition Cell

The additional director general (ADG) of CID, Manoj Kaushik, stated that the extradition cell will act as a nodal agency for state agencies and coordinate with central bodies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Union Ministry of External Affairs. Its responsibilities include issuing lookout notices, blue corner notices, and red corner notices against criminals, as well as monitoring the extradition process.

Streamlining the Process

Previously, state units handled extradition procedures individually. Under the new system, districts and agencies will submit requests to the cell, which will then take charge of the matter. This centralized approach is expected to enhance efficiency in bringing fugitives to justice.

Notable Cases

The cell is expected to play a strategic role in extraditing high-profile criminals such as Prince Khan, who will be brought back through central agencies. Recently, the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) issued a red corner notice against criminal Mayank Singh, leading to his extradition from Azerbaijan to India.

This initiative marks a significant step in the state's efforts to combat organized crime and ensure that fugitives face legal consequences.
