A group of men brutally assaulted a college student with a belt and a bat on a road in the Chakeri police station area of Kanpur on Saturday night, leaving him severely injured. The student had come to appear for an examination.
Attack Details
The victim, identified as Rajesh, a resident of Gorakhpur, was studying at a private college in Hathipur, Ruma. He arrived in Kanpur to write his back paper examination. On Saturday night, when Rajesh went to get food in Harjinder Nagar, Deepanshu Verma arrived with three associates and began threatening him. When Rajesh objected, the accused attacked him with a belt and a bat.
Victim's Attempt to Flee
Rajesh tried to flee, but the miscreants chased him down the road and continued beating him, leaving him seriously wounded. The attackers fled only after passersby and local residents intervened.
Old Enmity Revealed
Rajesh stated that Deepanshu Verma also studied at the same college. He said that about four years ago, they had an argument at the college, following which the accused had threatened to settle scores with him. Rajesh noted that he came to Kanpur specifically for the back paper examination, and when the accused got the opportunity, he was stopped near Harjinder Nagar Chauraha and assaulted.
Police Response
Upon receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and got the injured student medically examined. Police station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra said action is being taken on the basis of a complaint. He added, “The absconding accused will be arrested soon and legal action taken.”
