Complaint Against Delhi Capitals' Abishek Porel Over Promise of Marriage, Assault
Complaint Against Delhi Capitals' Abishek Porel

A police complaint has been filed against Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel by a woman who alleges that he engaged in a sexual relationship with her under the false promise of marriage, and also subjected her to assault and criminal intimidation. The complaint was lodged at the Mogra Police Station in Hooghly district on Tuesday, according to a PTI report.

Details of the Allegations

The woman, who filed the complaint along with her mother, claimed that she and Porel had been in a relationship for the past three years. She alleged that differences emerged last year, after which the cricketer began distancing himself from her. The complaint states that Porel had promised to marry her but is now unwilling to fulfill that promise.

In her statement to the police, the woman accused Porel of having sexual intercourse with her under the pretext of marriage, and further alleged assault and criminal intimidation. A police official confirmed to PTI, "We have received a complaint and started an investigation."

Porel's Denial

Porel, who is currently in Bengaluru, has strongly denied all allegations, describing them as false. The 23-year-old cricketer said he has not yet been contacted by the police. "I am playing well now, so various things are coming up," Porel was quoted as saying in the media. He added that he would respond in detail after the police complete their initial inquiry. "I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet," he said.

Background of the Cricketer

A left-handed top-order batter, Porel has represented Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2023. He scored 108 runs in four innings for Delhi Capitals last season. Porel made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2021-22 season and has accumulated 32 first-class and 23 List A matches to date.
