Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress state unit chief Jitu Patwari on Sunday wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, alleging a collapse of law and order and an “anarchic” situation in the state following a series of recent deaths.
Releasing a letter to the media, he said a sense of insecurity and eroding public faith in the system were evident across the state following “unfortunate incidents” involving children, women and other victims. Referring to the deaths, Patwari said the state dispensation appears to be “insensitive” to loss of lives.
He was referring to the deaths of children in Chhindwara after consuming toxic cough syrup, fatalities linked to contaminated water supply in Bhagirathpura in Indore, and the cruise tragedy at Bargi dam in Jabalpur. These incidents, he said, could have been avoided had the administration acted with greater “responsibility and sensitivity”.
Patwari also targeted the state leadership over its response to the Bargi tragedy, alleging that even as bodies were being recovered from the dam, the governor and chief minister were attending a folk dance programme at Lok Bhawan to mark the foundation day of Maharashtra and Gujarat. He called it a sign of “complete apathy” towards public sentiment.
Besides, he cited the death of several tribals in a road accident in Dhar district. “These incidents are only an example of collapsing law & order situation in MP and the state government losing grip over the system. The faith of people on the system is eroding and they are feeling insecure,” the Congress leader said.
He urged the President to take cognisance of the situation, and give directions to the state government to take corrective steps so that “faith of the people in the system could be restored”.
