Police Constable Found Murdered, Younger Brother Confesses

In a shocking case of fratricide, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural police have arrested the younger brother of a police head constable for his murder. The accused allegedly killed the policeman and buried the body in a shed near their family residence in Balhegaon village, Vaijapur taluka.

The police produced the suspect before a court on Monday, which granted a 4-day police custody for further interrogation.

Details of the Crime and Swift Investigation

The victim has been identified as Nanasaheb Divekar (48), who was posted at the Devgaon Rangari police station. His younger brother, Lahanuramji Satdive (Divekar), admitted during questioning that he attacked Nanasaheb with a sharp weapon while he was asleep in the early hours of January 2.

The motive appears to be a long-standing family and personal dispute. After the attack, the suspect confessed to digging a pit inside a tin shed close to the house and burying the body there in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Investigations revealed that Nanasaheb had completed a 24-hour duty shift ending on the morning of January 1 and was on leave that day. When he failed to report for duty on January 2, he was marked absent. A missing complaint was later registered at Shivur police station on Sunday.

Case Cracked in Three Hours

Superintendent of Police Vinaykumar Rathod highlighted the swift police work. "The case was cracked within three hours of registration after swift and coordinated action by multiple police teams," he said. The police treated the complaint with utmost seriousness as the victim was a serving policeman.

Parallel investigations by the local crime branch and Shivur police led to the quick identification of the accused. Based on specific inputs, Lahanuramji, a resident of the same village, was detained and subjected to intense grilling, leading to his confession.

Additional SP Annapurna Singh explained the circumstances that allowed the crime to go unnoticed. Only the elderly father, who has lost his hearing ability due to advanced age, was present in the house. The victim's son was at a coaching academy, and his wife was in Mumbai visiting relatives.

Case Registered Under BNS

Assistant Inspector Vaibhav Rankhamb of Shivur police station, who lodged the complaint on behalf of the government, stated that the missing case was converted into a murder case after the body was recovered.

"A case was registered under BNS sections 103(1) and 238," Rankhamb said. Further investigation is underway, including the recovery of weapons and collection of forensic evidence.
