Court orders CCTV footage preservation in disappearance case

Vijayawada: The case of the mysterious disappearance of Vijayawada rowdy-sheeter Gade Sai Krishna took a significant turn on Thursday after the II additional judicial magistrate of first class court directed authorities to preserve all CCTV footage recorded at Krishnalanka police station between May 1 and June 1, 2026.

Acting on petitions filed by Sai Krishna’s mother, Gade Vijayalakshmi, the court ordered police officials to protect and safely store hard discs, DVRs, NVRs, servers and all electronic storage devices containing footage from cameras installed in and around the police station. The court also directed officials to submit certified copies of the electronic records for safe custody.

In another key direction, the court ordered the production of call data records and location details associated with two mobile numbers belonging to Sai Krishna for the period between May 1 and June 1. The move is expected to play a crucial role in tracing his movements and establishing the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

The case has attracted widespread attention after Vijayalakshmi alleged that her son was taken to Krishnalanka police station and subjected to torture. She further alleged that circle inspector Nagaraju used Sai Krishna’s mobile phone to make calls after he went missing. Her allegations gained momentum after the officer was suspended amid mounting public pressure. Meanwhile, Rajamahendravaram SP Narasimha Kishore, who has been appointed as the special investigating officer in the case, visited the DGP’s office on Thursday to discuss the probe. Sources said the officer is expected to visit Krishnalanka police station and Sai Krishna’s residence on Friday as part of the investigation.

The case also took a political turn with YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visiting Sai Krishna’s residence in Krishnalanka on Thursday evening. He met the grieving family and assured them of legal support. Jagan alleged that the case pointed to serious lapses within the police system and demanded a CBI inquiry. He questioned why only the suspended CI was being blamed and sought accountability at higher levels of the police hierarchy. Jagan maintained that only an independent investigation could uncover the full truth behind Sai Krishna’s disappearance and deliver justice to the family.
