Court rejects bail for three ED assault accused

The judicial first class magistrate court in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday rejected the bail applications of three accused in connection with the alleged assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers following a raid.

The court dismissed the bail pleas of sixth accused Kiran, eighth accused Shafeeq and 17th accused Vaishakh. Earlier, seven accused in the case had been remanded to police custody for further investigation.

Among those taken into custody is the prime accused and CPM functionary I P Binu. The court also directed the police to ensure adequate medical care for Binu during custody after his counsel informed the court that he was suffering from severe hypertension. The magistrate instructed the police to closely monitor his health condition while carrying out interrogation procedures.

Those remanded to police custody include Revanth of Ambalathumukku in Vanchiyoor, Lenin Raj of Elakamon in Varkala, G R Nandu of Thekkumpuram in Neyyattinkara, Rahul Rajan of Manchavilakam in Neyyattinkara, Rahul of Tharatta in Nedumangad, and Vaishakh of Kaimanam in Pappanamcode.
