Delhi bizman's wife, Gogi gang member held for extortion, murder plot

Delhi Police have arrested the wife of a businessman and an alleged member of the notorious Gogi gang for conspiring to extort money from her husband and plotting to kill her mother-in-law, officials said on Monday.

Arrests and Charges

The accused were identified as Sapna Jain, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, and Rajat, a resident of Sonepat, Haryana. Rajat is an alleged member of the Gogi gang. According to DCP (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi, the case was initially registered at Laxmi Nagar police station based on a complaint from a wholesale businessman. The victim reported receiving calls and messages from an international number, with the caller identifying himself as a Gogi gang member and demanding Rs 50 lakh as extortion money. The caller threatened to kill the complainant and his family if the amount was not paid, and also sent photographs and locations of the victim's shop and house.

Investigation and Arrests

The investigation was later transferred to the New Delhi Range of the Special Cell. Using technical analysis and human intelligence, Rajat was arrested from Sonepat. During interrogation, it was revealed that Rajat was in contact with a US-based extortionist as well as the victim's wife and sister-in-law. He confessed that Sapna had hired him to extort money from her husband and later eliminate her mother-in-law and assault her husband.

Domestic Disputes and Conspiracy

According to investigators, Sapna married the victim in 2007, and the couple has two children aged 17 and 15. The couple had been facing domestic disputes, with the victim's mother allegedly taking her son's side. Sapna allegedly conspired with Rajat, a friend of her sister, to first extort money from her husband and then kill her mother-in-law and assault her husband. She provided Rajat with details of her husband's movements to facilitate the plan.

Police said that the extortion calls and messages were made to create fear and pressure the victim into paying the ransom. The case highlights the involvement of organized crime in domestic disputes, with the Gogi gang's network being used to carry out the extortion plot.
