Delhi Launches Its First Full-Fledged Women Police Station in Subzi Mandi
In a significant step towards enhancing women's safety, the Delhi government inaugurated its first full-fledged women police station in the Subzi Mandi area on Friday. The new facility is staffed entirely by female officers and aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for women to report crimes.
Key Features of the New Police Station
The women police station is equipped with modern amenities and is designed to be victim-friendly. It includes a dedicated counselling room, a child-friendly area, and private spaces for filing complaints. The station will operate 24/7 and handle all types of crimes against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and harassment.
Senior police officials stated that the station will be supervised by a female Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and will have a team of trained women officers who have undergone special sensitization programs. The initiative is part of a broader effort to make the police force more accessible and responsive to women's needs.
Community Response
Local residents and women's rights activists have welcomed the move, calling it a long-overdue step. Many believe that the presence of an all-women police station will encourage more women to come forward and report crimes without fear of stigma or insensitivity. The station is expected to serve as a model for similar facilities in other parts of the city.
Delhi Chief Minister, in a statement, said, "This is a historic moment for Delhi. Our government is committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of women. This police station will provide a secure space for women to seek justice."
Future Plans
The Delhi Police plans to set up more such women police stations across the city in the coming months. Training programs for male officers on gender sensitivity are also being expanded to complement the new initiative. The Subzi Mandi station is seen as a pilot project that could be replicated in other states.
