Delhi Police Announces Traffic Restrictions for Republic Day Rehearsals
Delhi Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory in preparation for the upcoming Republic Day Parade rehearsals. The advisory specifically targets vehicular movement in key areas of Central and New Delhi. This move aims to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted conduct of the parade preparations.
Rehearsal Schedule and Affected Areas
The rehearsals are scheduled to take place on Kartavya Path from January 19 to January 21. The affected stretch runs between Vijay Chowk and India Gate. During these days, the parade route will follow Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path, extending up to the 'C' Hexagon intersection.
To facilitate the rehearsals, traffic restrictions will be enforced at several critical crossings. These include Kartavya Path intersections with Rafi Marg, Janpath, Mansingh Road, and C-Hexagon. The restrictions will be active daily from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM.
Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will remain completely closed to all traffic during these hours. Motorists should expect significant diversions and potential congestion on adjacent roads as a result.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
Delhi Police has outlined detailed alternative routes to help commuters navigate around the restricted zones. For North-South movement, drivers can utilize Ring Road via Sarai Kale Khan, IP Flyover, and Rajghat. Another option is Lajpat Rai Marg connecting to Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, and Ring Road. A third alternative involves Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, RML, and Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
For East-West travel, the recommended route includes Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithvi Raj Road, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Simon Bolivar Marg, and Upper Ridge Road or Vande Mataram Marg.
Travelers heading from South Delhi to Connaught Place or Central Secretariat should consider using Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, and Mandir Marg or Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Alternatively, they can take Ring Road, Vande Mataram Marg, Link Road, and Panchkuian Road.
Motorists traveling to Vinay Marg and Shanti Path, or proceeding towards New Delhi and beyond, are advised to follow Sardar Patel Marg to Mother Teresa Crescent, roundabout RML, and Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Another viable option is Park Street to Mandir Marg, continuing towards North Delhi or New Delhi.
Delhi Police urges all commuters to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to the traffic advisories. These measures are essential for the successful execution of the Republic Day Parade rehearsals, a matter of national importance.
