A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Delhi's Nangloi Extension after enduring repeated physical abuse by her husband, who reportedly assaulted her while under the influence of alcohol, according to her family's allegations. Police received information about the woman's death on Wednesday after she was brought dead to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (SGM) Hospital. The deceased, a resident of Nangloi Extension, had allegedly died by hanging within seven years of marriage, prompting authorities to inform the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for inquest proceedings as per legal provisions.
Family Alleges History of Abuse
In a statement recorded by the Tehsildar of Mundka, the deceased's mother alleged that the woman's husband, identified as Rohit, frequently beat her after consuming alcohol. Investigators revealed that Rohit is currently undergoing treatment for a life-threatening head injury sustained in an accident months ago. Doctors treating him have reportedly stated that he is unlikely to survive beyond two to three years.
Video Evidence Handed Over
During the investigation, family members submitted two videos allegedly recorded by the woman before she took the extreme step. Police stated that the videos indicate severe psychological distress and fear for her life due to continuous harassment by her husband. The footage is being examined as part of the inquiry.
Legal Action Taken
A post-mortem examination was conducted on June 24. Based on the allegations, video evidence, and other circumstances, police have registered a case against Rohit. Further investigation is underway, with authorities awaiting the post-mortem report and additional forensic analysis.
