Dhanbad: Man arrested for firing over money dispute in Nirsa

Police in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district have made a significant arrest in connection with a shocking shooting incident that spread panic in a local village at the start of the new year. The arrest follows a dispute over money that escalated into gunfire.

Argument Over Money Leads to Gunfire

The incident occurred on January 1 in Kalimati village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nirsa police station. According to authorities, the violence stemmed from a heated argument regarding a monetary transaction between the prime accused and another individual, Niranjan Kumar Chauhan.

During the altercation, the main accused, identified as Yuvraj Singh (20), allegedly pulled out a pistol and opened fire. The sudden gunshots created a wave of fear and panic among residents in the area, prompting an immediate police response.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Acting on a formal written complaint filed by the informant, the Nirsa police swiftly registered a case under the relevant, stringent sections of the Arms Act. The First Information Report (FIR) named a total of five persons in connection with the crime.

The police launched a manhunt and successfully apprehended the key accused, Yuvraj Singh, on January 3. Singh is a resident of Matadih Colony, which is also within the Nirsa police station area. During subsequent interrogation, the arrested individual confessed to his involvement in the firing incident.

Weapon Recovered, Accused Has Criminal Past

Addressing the media during a press conference on Sunday, Nirsa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajat Manik Bakhla provided crucial updates on the case. He revealed that based on the confession obtained from Singh, the police team managed to recover the weapon used in the crime—a country-made pistol.

SDPO Bakhla further disclosed a concerning detail about the accused's background. Yuvraj Singh has a known criminal history, with previous cases already registered against him at the Nirsa police station. This past record added urgency to the investigation.

The senior police official assured that the investigation is ongoing and active. Police teams are conducting raids to locate and apprehend the remaining absconding accused named in the FIR. SDPO Bakhla emphasized that all individuals involved in the incident will be brought to justice soon.
