Ujjain: The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered in a field near Brahmankheda village under the Raghavi police station limits. According to police, the incident is being treated as a double murder.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Manju Sharma (35) and Kaluram Verma (42), both residents of Bailakheda village. Kaluram's motorcycle was found near the location where the bodies were recovered.
Discovery and Initial Response
ASP (Rural) Karndeep Singh stated that villagers alerted the police on Thursday afternoon after spotting the bodies on a field ridge along the Brahmankheda road.
While the case initially appeared to be an accident, severe head injuries on both victims indicated murder. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination to Mahidpur Hospital and were handed over to the families on Friday.
Investigation and Suspicions
A murder case has been registered based on the families' complaint. Investigators suspect the killings may be linked to an affair, with the woman's family under suspicion. However, old enmity and financial disputes are also being explored as possible motives.
Initial investigation revealed that Kaluram was a close friend of Manju's husband. Manju worked as a midday-meal cook at a government school. Kaluram was unmarried.
Police believe both victims were killed with a heavy object struck on their heads.
Detentions and Evidence Collection
Several family members and other suspects have been detained for questioning. Authorities have also obtained Call Detail Records (CDRs) of the deceased and suspects' phones to aid the investigation.
