Drug peddler held with brown sugar worth Rs 60 lakh in Chatra

A drug peddler was arrested with 277 grams of brown sugar, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh in the market, from the Vashishth Nagar police station limits in Chatra district on Saturday, police said on Sunday.

Arrest and Seizure

The arrested accused has been identified as Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Rajguruwa village under the Jori police station limits, police added. Chatra sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Sunny Vardhan said, “SP Animesh Naithany received a tip-off that a person was travelling in a white SUV towards Painikala village for selling brown sugar. An SUV coming from Dantar village and heading towards Chatra town was intercepted at Hardahi More and the contraband item was seized. The exact destination of the consignment is yet to be ascertained.”

District-wide Crackdown

With this seizure, a total of Rs 3 crore worth of narcotics, including 16 kg of opium, 689 kg of dodda, and 19.5 grams of brown sugar, besides other substances, have been seized in the district over the past three months. The arrested accused is in police custody.
