Drugs Peddler Arrested with Brown Sugar Worth Rs 60 Lakh

Chatra: A drugs peddler was arrested with 277 gm of brown sugar, valued at around Rs 60 lakh in the market, from the Vashishth Nagar police station limits in Chatra district on Saturday, police said on Sunday.

Arrest and Seizure

The arrested accused has been identified as Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Rajguruwa village under the Jori police station limits. Chatra sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Sunny Vardhan said, “SP Animesh Naithany received a tip-off that a person was travelling in a white SUV towards Painikala village for selling brown sugar. An SUV coming from Dantar village and heading towards Chatra town was intercepted at Hardahi More and the contraband item was seized. The exact destination of the consignment is yet to be ascertained.”

Previous Seizures in District

With this arrest, a total of Rs 3 crore worth of 16 kg opium, 689 kg dodda, and 19.5 gms brown sugar, besides other narcotics substances, have been seized in the district in the past three months. The arrested accused is currently in Chatra police custody.
