The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) carried out surprise raids on regional transport offices (RTOs), motor vehicle inspectorate offices, and driving schools across Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The operation led to the seizure of unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 31.9 lakh and the detection of suspicious digital wallet transactions worth Rs 5.95 lakh.
Ordered by DVAC director A Arun, the raids were executed simultaneously by DVAC officers and district inspection teams across 40 locations in the state.
Seizures in Chennai
In Chennai, unaccounted cash was recovered from four offices. The Pulianthope RTO yielded Rs 9,100, while the Valasaravakkam RTO, Kolathur RTO, and Anna Nagar RTO contributed Rs 45,640, Rs 37,560, and Rs 14,470, respectively.
Major Seizures in Other Districts
The Arakonam motor vehicle inspector (MVI) office in Ranipet district recorded the highest single seizure of Rs 2.31 lakh. The Kancheepuram RTO yielded Rs 69,020, the Poonamallee RTO in Tiruvallur district yielded Rs 21,370, the Gudiyatham MVI office in Vellore district yielded Rs 15,500, and the Chengalpet RTO yielded Rs 34,610 along with digital wallet transactions of Rs 98,688.
Delta and Central Districts
Significant seizures were also made in delta and central districts. The Kallakurichi RTO recorded Rs 3.77 lakh, the Chidambaram RTO in Cuddalore district recorded Rs 1.87 lakh, the Thiruvannamalai RTO recorded Rs 75,000, and the Kumbakonam RTO in Thanjavur district recorded Rs 1.31 lakh. The Thiruvarur RTO yielded Rs 1.20 lakh, and the Mayiladuthurai RTO yielded Rs 1.75 lakh. The Alangudi MVI unit in Pudukottai district recorded digital wallet transactions of Rs 1.55 lakh.
Western Districts
In the western districts, the Gudalur transport department unit in the Nilgiris yielded Rs 1.03 lakh, and the Krishnagiri RTO yielded Rs 1.08 lakh. The Tiruppur South RTO recorded Rs 81,400, and the Paramathivelur MVI office in Namakkal district recorded Rs 1.01 lakh.
Southern Districts
In the southern districts, the Paramakudi RTO in Ramanathapuram district recorded Rs 1.92 lakh, the Srivilliputhur RTO in Virudhunagar district recorded Rs 1.29 lakh, and the Uthampalayam RTO in Theni district recorded Rs 92,200.
