ED Arrests Ex-Minister Nageswara Rao's Son in AP Liquor Transport Scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested the son of former Andhra Pradesh minister Nageswara Rao in connection with a liquor transport scam, officials said on Thursday.

The ED arrested M. Srinivasa Rao, son of former minister M. Nageswara Rao, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after questioning him for several hours at its office here.

The arrest is related to the alleged illegal transportation of liquor from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh during the previous YSR Congress government's regime. The case involves the supply of liquor at higher prices than the MRP, causing losses to the state exchequer.

The ED had earlier conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Nageswara Rao and his associates. The agency is investigating the role of several politicians and officials in the scam.

Nageswara Rao, a former minister in the YSR Congress government, is currently out on bail in another case. His son Srinivasa Rao was summoned for questioning and later arrested after his statements were found unsatisfactory.

The ED will produce him before a special PMLA court in Vijayawada and seek his custody for further interrogation.
