Elderly Couple Murdered in Kallakurichi; Grandson-in-Law Suspected

KALLAKURICHI: A brutal murder of an elderly couple has shocked the Kalrayan Hills area in Kallakurichi district. The victims, identified as Ramasamy (70) and his wife R Ponammal (65), were found dead in their home on Friday. The crime came to light when neighbors noticed the couple had not emerged from their house for an unusually long time. Concerned, they entered the dwelling and discovered the bodies with severe head injuries. The police were immediately alerted.

Investigation and Suspicions

A team from the Kariyalur police station arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them for postmortem examination. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple lived in a hut on their small farmland. Their only son, Kuppusamy, had died a few years ago at the age of 50. Their granddaughter, K Megala, married A Sathish three years ago. However, a misunderstanding led Megala to leave Sathish and move in with her grandparents a few months ago. She later left the village for Tirupur to work in a garment unit.

Suspect's Motive

Police investigations indicate that Sathish had been pressuring the elderly couple to convince Megala to return to him. The grandparents refused to comply with his demands. Sathish was the last person seen at the couple's house on Thursday night. A grinding stone was found near the bodies, suggesting it was used to strike the victims on the head. The police suspect Sathish's involvement in the crime.
