A resident of Dum Dum has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Behala Police Station, accusing former Trinamool Congress councillor and Member of Mayor-in-Council (MMiC) Tarak Singh, his son Amit Singh, and their associates of encroaching upon his property, assaulting him, and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh under the threat of a firearm.

Incident Details

According to the complaint, the 75-year-old property owner visited his plot located at 89, P N Mitra Brick Field Road in Behala Taratala around 12:30 pm on June 17. He had learned that the accused had allegedly taken over the land. Upon confronting them, he was physically attacked. The complainant stated that he was slapped and kicked, and then threatened with a gun. The assailants allegedly warned him that he would be killed if he failed to pay the demanded amount.

Legal Action

Police confirmed that this is the first post-poll FIR naming Tarak Singh and his son Amit. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges of intimidation, extortion, and causing hurt. Additionally, provisions of the Arms Act have been invoked. A special investigation team has been formed to trace CCTV footage from the area and to question the accused individuals.
